Do I need to leave my bed to see you, or can we meet on video?
|
I can see patients who are located in any of the blue states in this map at the time of an appointment. I also have a license to practice in New York state, so patients from NY are also eligible for telehealth with me. Telehealth can indeed reduce stress involved with traveling to/from visits. Refer here for some of my thoughts on “bed rotting.”
My office is located in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, for those who are interested in meeting in person. |
What kind of therapist are you?
Professionally, I’d consider myself a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT). Depending on the age of my patients, some might alternatively call me a feelings doctor, or a gossip doctor. While I thoroughly enjoy the show Shrinking, I would consider Jason Segel’s approach to patients to be vastly different from my own. As a CBT clinician, I try to guide patients to change the ways in which they respond to unhelpful thought patterns. I also work closely to understand the function of behaviors so that my patients can feel more effectively make changes to their own actions that might keep them feeling "stuck."
Exposure therapy sounds traumatic. Why would I want to do things that make me feel nervous enough to come see you?
I agree that it sounds counterintuitive and can be a hard sell. I am a collaborative, empathetic, and warm provider who primarily works to build trust with my patients. I will share my recommendation for exposure therapy when I believe that a patient might benefit from this approach, which is informed by over a decade of my own clinical experience and many years of research. I believe that patients should feel comfortable advocating and asking questions before agreeing to any treatment plan. This article might help you to better understand my position on exposure therapy.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out of network provider, as many insurance companies can mandate the amount of sessions and type of clinical services that I provide to patients. I deeply appreciate the financial investment of therapy, and hope that you will see my commitment to delivering evidence based, high quality care. I am very happy to share suggested questions when inquiring about out-of-network benefits to estimate your reimbursement before meeting with me. I also provide all patients with a monthly statement (superbill) that can be used when submitting for out-of-network reimbursement.
What is your cancellation policy?
I kindly request at least 24 hours notice of your need to cancel an appointment. This allows me the opportunity to accommodate other appointment requests. You will be responsible for the full session fee in the event that you cancel with less than 24 hours notice for a non-emergent reason.
What is the "No Surprise Act"?
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance, or aren’t using their insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. I will be happy to provide you with a Good Faith Estimate upon request. Please be sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
